For example, 430-grade stainless steel surfaces can be iron 1.4319 reflective or matte, can be glossy, polished or embossed, can be colored by plating or by etching a pattern on its surface, and can be cut into steel strips to meet the various requirements of the designer. The appearance of the surface is easy to maintain, requiring only the occasional rinse to remove dust. Because of its good corrosion resistance, graffiti can be easily removed, and contaminated surfaces can be easily decontaminated.

The 430 1D stainless steel finish (QIYI METAL brand) is the brushed finish commonly seen on kitchen appliances and backsplashes. This finish has a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) film on one side to help protect against scratching during fabrication and installation.
